Fellowships
Leveraging its vast collections, The New York Historical's unique fellowship program provides scholars with resources and an intellectual community to develop new research and publications.
The New York Historical and the Patricia D. Klingenstein Library provide a rich environment for research and learning. Fellows, most of whom work from a study center on the the Edith & Frances Mulhall Achilles Mezzanine, are encouraged to explore the collections, to take advantage of the full scope of the Library and Museum’s resources, and to share their research during their tenure through informal talks and blog posts. Educational outreach and public programs further support New-York Historical’s intellectual mission to explore the richly layered political, cultural, and social history of New York and the nation, as well as the making and the meaning of history.
The New York Historical offers several fellowship opportunities, such as the ones listed below, for scholars at all stages of their careers. Application deadlines are in January for the following academic year. Scholars with full-time fellowships are in residence at the Society and may not participate in external employment. If you have any queries regarding fellowships, please email fellowships@nyhistory.org.
Current and Past Fellows
Fellowships at the New-York Historical Society are made possible through the generous endowments of The Mellon Foundation, Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation, and Helen and Robert Appel. Major support for fellowships is provided by Bernard L. Schwartz and the Lehrman Institute. All fellows receive research stipends while in residency.
