Countertenor

Event Details:
Despite familiar examples in popular culture, including Michael Jackson and Mickey Mouse, the voice of a countertenor is something of an otherworldly and remarkable sound even among those versed in opera. Anthony Roth Costanzo, the Grammy Award-winning countertenor, dubbed “one of opera’s biggest stars” by The New York Times, joins journalist Joshua Barone for an exploration of his life, artistic journey, and the history and evolution of both countertenors and their musical predecessors, castrati, who were vital to the development of opera as a form.
Anthony Roth Costanzo (moderator) is a Grammy-winning opera singer and producer, the General Director and President of Opera Philadelphia, the artistic director of SongStudio at Carnegie Hall, and the author of Countertenor.
Joshua Barone (moderator) is an editor for the Culture section of The New York Times covering opera and classical music.
Location:
The Robert H. Smith Auditorium at The New York Historical, 170 Central Park West, New York, NY 10024
