Covering the Court: The Media and the First Amendment
Ann and Andrew Tisch Supreme Court Lecture

Event Details:
The Supreme Court has long been a source of media outrage and praise, both for the decisions passed down by the court and the personal and political actions, past and present, of its justices. From abortion to gerrymandering and beyond, how have media outlets across the political spectrum covered these momentous decisions and their aftermath, and how do free speech, legal precedent, and the challenges facing journalism today intersect? A panel of journalists and legal experts explores how the highest court in the land fares in the spotlight of American media.
Justin Elliott is a prize-winning journalist with ProPublica. Katie Fallow is deputy litigation director at the Knight First Amendment Institute. Adam Liptak is a journalist covering the Supreme Court for the New York Times. Joanne Lipman (moderator) is an author and journalist who has served as editor-in-chief of organizations including USA Today and the Wall Street Journal’s Weekend Journal.
