Erasing History: How Fascists Rewrite the Past to Control the Future
- Wednesday, November 13, 2024
- $35 (Members $25)

Event Details:
The study and stories of history have long been a stage for fascist governments and movements to gather support and exercise control over citizens. In a dynamic that is increasingly and disturbingly familiar in the United States, forceful and even violent attempts at controlling national historic narratives has frequently placed institutes of education at the center of this battle to define not only the past, but citizens' understanding of national identity and values. Bestselling author and philosopher Jason Stanley joins historian Elizabeth Hinton to expose the true danger of the authoritarian right's attacks on history.
Jason Stanley is the Jacob Urowsky Professor of Philosophy at Yale University and the author of six books, including How Fascism Works and, most recently, Erasing History: How Fascists Rewrite the Past to Control the Future. Elizabeth Hinton (moderator) is Professor of History, African American Studies, and Law at Yale University and Yale Law School, and the author of the award-winning books From the War on Poverty to the War on Crime and America on Fire.
