Finding New York’s Revolutionary Women

Event Details:
How did New York’s women experience the Revolutionary period—and how did their lives shape the American story? These questions are at the heart of Revolutionary Women, the Jean Margo Reid Center for Women’s History’s new exhibition in commemoration of the semiquincentennial. Drawing on The New York Historical's Museum and Library collections, the exhibition shows new insights about women’s contributions to the war effort, labor, complicated allegiances, and material experiences.
To celebrate the exhibition’s opening, join Founding Director of the Center for Women’s History and Sue Ann Weinberg Director of the Patricia D. Klingenstein Library Valerie Paley in conversation with the exhibition’s curatorial team about their original research: Anna Danziger Halperin (Director of the Center for Women’s History), Tessa Bangs (Mellon Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow in Women’s History and Public History), Isabelle Held (Mellon Foundation Gender and LGBTQ+ History Postdoctoral Fellow), and Rachel Pitkin (Mellon Foundation Predoctoral Awardee in Women’s History).
The Joyce B. Cowin Women’s History Gallery will also be open for a special viewing from 5:30-6 pm, and 7-8 pm
