Napoleon and His Marshals: Victory, Rivalry, Betrayal
History with David M. Rubenstein

Event Details:
When Napoleon appointed 26 Marshals of the Empire to honor his most valued generals, his bestowment of glory begot a fierce competition for even more. The lives of these marshals followed the forging of the empire, the rise of one of history’s most notorious emperors, and the fall of the Napoleonic order. New York Times bestselling author Andrew Roberts sits down with David M. Rubenstein to discuss how the rivalries and alliances between Napoleon’s vainglorious elite shaped both the emperor’s legacy and the greater fate of Europe.
Andrew Roberts is the Bonnie and Tom McCloskey Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution. His latest book is Napoleon and His Marshals: Victory, Rivalry, Betrayal.
David M. Rubenstein (moderator), co-founder and co-chairman of the Carlyle Group, is the host of History with David Rubenstein on PBS and the author of the upcoming Inside The Owner’s Box: Conversations on Power and Leadership in Sports, among other books.
Location:
The Robert H. Smith Auditorium at The New York Historical, 170 Central Park West, New York, NY 10024
