National Treasure: How the Declaration of Independence Made America
Non-Fiction at the Bryant Park Reading Room

Event Details:
Our popular outdoor lecture series is back! The New York Historical is thrilled to once again partner with the Bryant Park Reading Room to present a series of free programs in the park.
What role has the Declaration of Independence played throughout American history? The story spans far beyond its approval by the Continental Congress 250 years ago. In anticipation of the semiquincentennial, historian Michael Auslin follows the Declaration through two and a half centuries, from the first draft and dissemination during the Revolution, to its influence on figures as diverse as Jefferson Davis and FDR, to its use in advertising products from insurance to coal.
Michael Auslin is the Payson J. Treat Distinguished Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, as well as the author of National Treasure: How the Declaration of Independence Made America.
This program is produced in partnership with the Bryant Park Corporation.

This program will be held at the outdoor Reading Room in Bryant Park. The Reading Room is located on the 42nd Street side of the park between 5th and 6th Avenues. Look for the yellow and white umbrellas.
