Power Plays: Hockey, Gender and Representation

Event Details:
Presented live on Zoom
The Center for Women’s History at The New York Historical is committed to unearthing and interrogating the lives of women who shape the American experience. A signature rotation on our Fourth Floor draws from the extensive personal and professional archives of the tennis player and activist Billie Jean King, continuously highlighting how women’s sports is an essential part of the American story itself.
To highlight the achievements and challenges of women in sports, The Center brings together a team of “game-changing” panelists, sparked by an ongoing national interest in hockey. From “Heated Rivalry” to the Winter Olympics, we will explore how larger questions of gender parity have historically shaped the sport, how these dynamics are changing, and why hockey content is proving so broadly engaging in our fragmented political and cultural moment.
