Our popular outdoor lecture series is back! The New York Historical is thrilled to once again partner with the Bryant Park Reading Room to present a series of free programs in the park.
When the Supreme Court decided on Roe v. Wade in 1973, Samuel Alito was only a young law student. His writing of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision for the Supreme Court in 2022, which overruled Roe, could be seen as the culmination of a decades-long crusade to reverse everything achieved in the fifty intervening years: separation of church and state, women’s rights, environmental protection, and gun regulation. In this lecture, author Peter S. Canellos examines Alito’s story to understand his outsize effect on American society and conservatism.
Peter S. Canellos is the former executive editor of POLITICO and the author or editor of several books, including Revenge for the Sixties: Sam Alito and the Triumph of the Conservative Legal Movement.

This program will be held at the outdoor Reading Room in Bryant Park. The Reading Room is located on the 42nd Street side of the park between 5th and 6th Avenues. Look for the yellow and white umbrellas.
