The Historical Lens: The Past, Present, and Future of Election Security

Event Details:
Presented live on Zoom
Nearly 240 years after the Constitution outlined the American system of government, many Americans are losing faith in the integrity of the nation’s electoral system, with widespread concerns about voter suppression, polling data manipulation, and more. But as with everything else in the country’s history, this is not the first time these issues have been raised. Journalist Joanne Lipman joins historian Tracy Campbell for a conversation about the legacy of election security and fraud in the United States.
The Historical Lens is a programming series presenting free, live, virtual discussions that seeks to offer historical context for breaking news stories to better understand our current moment.
Tracy Campbell is the E. Vernon Smith and Eloise C. Smith Professor of American History at the University of Kentucky and the author of several books, including Deliver the Vote: A History of Election Fraud, an American Political Tradition-1742-2004 and the Barbara and David Zalaznick Book Prize-winning The Year of Peril: America in 1942.
Joanne Lipman (moderator), a scholar trustee of The New York Historical, is an author and journalist who has served as editor-in-chief of organizations including USA Today and the Wall Street Journal’s Weekend Journal.
