Subway: Take the B (weekdays only) or C to 81st Street. We're also a 12-minute walk from the 72nd Street station for the 1, 2, and 3 trains at Broadway at 72nd Street. For a complete subway map, visit the MTA website.

Please note: The 81st Street subway station is  not wheelchair accessible. The closest accessible subway station is the 72nd Street station.

Bus: The M79 bus travels east/west on West 79th Street across Central Park, with a nearby stop on West 81st Street. Other buses also stop at or nearby, including the M7, M10, M11, M86, and M104 buses. For complete bus information, visit the MTA website.

There is a limited amount of street parking on 77th Street, 76th Street and Central Park West.

The argument over states’ rights versus a strong federal government is far from a new debate in this country. Before the divisions of today, and even before the Civil War, two men represented contrasting visions of what America could be: Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. Jefferson believed in individual liberties, while Hamilton promoted a powerful executive, a conflict which has informed American politics for centuries and politicians from Franklin Roosevelt to Donald Trump. In this discussion with David W. Blight, legal scholar Jeffrey Rosen probes the opposing forces that have shaped—and continue to shape—our nation.

Jeffrey Rosen is a law professor at George Washington University and CEO emeritus of the National Constitution Center. He is the author, most recently, of The Pursuit of Liberty: How Hamilton vs. Jefferson Ignited the Lasting Battle Over Power in America. David W. Blight (moderator), a scholar trustee of The New York Historical, is Sterling Professor of American History at Yale University, as well as Director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition. His newest book is Yale and Slavery: A History.

Jeffrey Rosen probes the opposing political views of Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton to understand the ongoing struggle for power in this country.
